A Study in Contrast

Crisp white custom cabinets with deep navy tile transformed this kitchen from a dark, narrow galley into a bright and welcoming space. A hammered nickel pendant now hangs over the sink, and along with new recessed cans and under-cabinet lighting, there is now plenty of illumination for any culinary task. The quartz slab countertops feature navy/charcoal grey veining that ties into the herringbone backsplash as well as the Moroccan/Mediterranean patterned tile that graces the sink wall all the way up to the ceiling. The dishwasher was moved so that the new stainless steel undermount sink could be centered on the window, also providing much-needed counter space to the left of the sink. The old dry-walled pantry surround with a bi-fold door was torn out so that we could design far more storage with roll-out shelves in the cabinetry surrounding the refrigerator. Wide drawers replaced lower cupboards next to the range, providing much better usability. A new lazy susan in the corner allows convenient access to what had been an unused void. An old patio door with a small window was replaced with a new model featuring a large continuous glass pane, bringing in more natural light and opening up the view toward the pool. Our new design gives our client far greater functionality while providing a fresh aesthetic with high-contrast style.
