Old  Hollywood  Glam

This luxe great room evokes the golden age of the silver screen. Custom chinoiserie panels are hand-painted on a champagne leaf ground and framed in gilded bamboo. A mid-century tufted rocker was reupholstered in sterling velvet, becoming a favorite spot to read. A new bookcase is resplendent with its gothic quatrefoil doors, enclosing a collection of books and objets d’art. Venetian and Moroccan pieces shine in the space, with silk Fortuny sconces, a custom chandelier of white gold-infused Murano glass, pewter leather poufs, and a mother of pearl inlaid side table. Select antiques lend depth as they contrast with newly crafted furnishings: a centuries-old gilded frame hangs above an old Italian bombé chest, while across the room a silk embroidered piano shawl drapes a round table beside a pair of new leather chairs. A large contemporary wool rug anchors the conversation area with a shimmery arabesque design. The Art Deco sofa pillow’s metallic embroidery ties in nicely with the finish of the dining table’s base. The base has clean modern lines, which supports a custom slab of quartz that is indistinguishable from, but far more easy-care than marble. New Louis XVI style chairs have been reupholstered in a fabric that is closer to a Venetian brocaded velvet than the French damask one might first perceive. This elegant yet comfortable room is graced by George Hurrell portraits of film stars Marlene Dietrich and Anita Page. Hurrell is credited with defining Hollywood glamour and his photography is showcased against a backdrop of cloudy silver walls accented by tall golden draperies.
