For this kitchen remodel, our design called for making better use of the available space. The first step was raising the dropped ceiling and gaining extra storage in taller upper cabinets. By removing a pantry closet with an unnecessary drywall surround, we were able to better utilize and organize the pantry area while also creating more cabinet and countertop space. A freestanding counter-depth refrigerator looks built-in thanks to the custom cabinetry. Tones in the new marble arabesque tile bring subtle richness and depth to the backsplash, while blending well with the tile floor. A stainless steel apron-front sink is a fresh alternative that ties into the suite of new appliances. The old location of the dishwasher created an off-center layout of the sink within the bay window. We relocated the dishwasher to the peninsula, which allowed us to create a much more pleasing symetrical presentation. A gunmetal gray finish on the cabinets is carried over to select walls, creating a unified scheme. The new kitchen is a breath of fresh air, featuring classic styling with an updated, modern sensibility.
